Workforce Training Series

Overview

Join our comprehensive training series designed to help you break into the workforce with essential skills and valuable connections. Both series include:

  • Meet and greets with employers in the sector
  • Resume, cover letter, job search, and interview skills training
  • $150.00 deposit (returned upon completion)
  • Certifications and a completion certificate (30-40 hours)
  • One-on-one mentoring

Requirements

To participate, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Unemployed or underemployed
  • Newcomer to Canada within the last 5 years (Permanent Resident, Temporary Foreign Worker, International Student)
  • 18 years of age or older
  • CLB level of 4 or higher
  • Interest in the hospitality or construction industry
  • $150.00 deposit paid by November 13th (returned upon completion)
  • Commitment to attending each session
  • Registered client of NWC (if not, come in and we will assist you with registration)
  • Able to legally work in Canada

Series 1: Hospitality Training

Dates: November 18-24 (Monday-Friday each week)

Focus Areas: Restaurant & Bar, Front Desk Agent, Room Attendant

What You Will Receive:

  • SafeCheck Advanced Food Safety (available in French, Spanish, Arabic, Punjabi, Hindi)
  • SafeCheck WHMIS 2015 Training
  • SafeCheck Respect in the Workplace Training
  • Serve it Right
  • Service it Best
  • Emerit Work Readiness Credentials

Plus, choose one of the following options:

  • Option 1: Front Desk Agent
  • Option 2: Housekeeping/Room Attendant
  • Option 3: Line Cook

Series 2: Construction Training

Dates: December 2-13 (Monday-Friday each week)

Focus Areas: Entry-Level in Construction, Laborer, Oil Rigs, Agriculture

What You Will Receive:

  • Safety Construction Orientation Training (SCOT)
  • Rights and Responsibilities
  • Pipeline Construction Safety Training (online theory)
  • Construction Safety Training System - Fundamentals
  • Common Safety Orientation (online)
  • H2S Awareness Training
  • Confined Space Training
  • Lone Worker Safety Training
  • Heat and Cold Stress Prevention
  • Electrical Safety Awareness

Note: The classes above must be supplemented by further instruction and hands-on training specific to the jurisdiction, job worksite, and equipment (a requirement of the employer).
