We All Belong: A Guide to Working with Newcomers
We All Belong: A Guide to Working with Newcomers
This seminar will help to equip you in your work with newcomers. Whether you work in human services, customer service, or any other field where you regularly interact with the public, our goal is to provide you with the information you need to develop greater cultural competence.
Particular attention will be given to the current Syrian resettlement efforts, including a special presentation by Kurtis Hoff, who has spent time living in the Middle East, participating in Arabic culture, and learning the Arabic dialect that Syrian refugees speak. He will be sharing with us cultural values and habits of the Syrian people so that we can be prepared as they come into our community.
The 1 pm session is geared towards those working with refugees and newcomers while the 7:00 pm session is geared towards community members. The same basic information will be presented at each session. Everyone is welcome at whichever session best suits their schedule.
